Marc Burgat has over 30 years of experience in politics, policy, government relations, and public relations. Marc formed MB Advocacy after spending nearly 7 years managing the Sacramento office of the world’s largest law firm, Dentons, where he was a Principal and lobbyist in the firm’s Public Policy and Regulation practice. Dentons selected Marc after he led the California Chamber of Commerce’s business advocacy efforts.
As the Vice President of Government Relations for the CalChamber, Burgat led one of Sacramento’s most successful public policy teams and served as chief advocate and spokesperson for the Association’s over 16,000 members. Under his guidance, the Sacramento Bee and California Watch reported that the CalChamber “…enjoyed the most legislative victories…” of any other advocacy group.
Before CalChamber Burgat served as director of governmental affairs for the California Cable & Telecommunications Association (CCTA). Burgat led the association’s successful advocacy efforts during the historic Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act of 2006 (DIVCA). In his role with CCTA Burgat he directed all state legislative and political activities for the nearly 200 cable companies in California.
Previously Burgat served under Los Angeles Mayors James Hahn and Antonio Villaraigosa as the Chief Legislative Representative for the City of Los Angeles, acting as the point person on numerous and diverse issues impacting the second largest city in the nation.
During his 30+ years in policy and politics, Burgat founded Strategic Communications & Advocacy, a firm specializing in public and legislative advocacy, coalition development, and issues management, was the director of public affairs for the American Heart Association for the Western United States and served as chief of staff and senior consultant in the California State Assembly.
Burgat previously served on the Board of Directors for the California Travel & Tourism Association, School Board president for Delta Charter School, Board president for the West Sacramento youth swim team, Little League Board member, and Youth Soccer Coach. Marc was honored as the Sacramento area Father of the Year in 2006 by the National Father of the Year Council.
Burgat currently lives in Davis CA with his wife and their four children.
